Baker's Plays
High School Playwriting Competition

Baker’s Plays has been an advocate for theater in schools for over one hundred years. In the spirit of that commitment, we offer this playwriting competition for High School students. Plays may be about any subject and of any length. It is our hope that this competition will encourage aspiring high school authors to explore the creative possibilities of writing for the stage.
Rules and Regulations:
- Submissions must be accompanied by this application, complete with the signature of a sponsoring high school drama or English teacher, attesting to the student author's qualifications.
- Teachers may not submit a student's work.
- Multiple submissions, musicals, and co-authored scripts are welcome. Submissions may be about any subject matter.
- The manuscript must be firmly bound (staples and binder clips are acceptable), proof-read, and typed.
- Plays will not be returned. Do not send originals.
- Submissions are welcome after November 1, 2011. All plays must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2012.
- Playwrights will be notified of awards during the month of October 2012.
AWARDS
First Place: $500.00
Second Place: $250.00
Third Place: $100.00
Each winner’s play will be published in a collection by Baker's Plays with a royalty earning contract.

The Off-Off Broadway festival started in 1975 and is Manhattan's oldest continuous short play festival. Over 360 theatre companies and schools have participated in the Festival's first thirty-one years, including companies from coast to coast as well as abroad from Canada and England.
